Hi. Another OT thread (I guess), but after installing windows XP, my wireless PCI card for getting internet (the main box is attatched to another computer about 20 feet away) if functioning... wierd.
I get internet, but it will connect for about 20 seconds, then disconnect. I have to press connect again and it will go for another while, then stop in the middle again. This continues on and on, and I have no clue how to solve it.
It's a Linksys Wireless PCI card, and I never had any problems with it before. I'm pressing 'connect' long enough to post this in hopes someone knows why. Thanks!

Hello, i use a Linksys Wirless USB Adapter (54Mbps Wireless-G). I used to get the same problem, okay, for one, do NOT use the software that comes with it, it sucks ass. All you need on that disk is one dll. Okay, first COMPLETELY uninstall the card, not manually, but from control panel> network and internet connections> Network Connections. It should say Local Area Connection or the name of your card. Right click on the Card and select delete. If it deletes, good, if not, just disable it. Go to create a new connection, follow the instructions, and when it asks you for a driver CD insert your Disk that came with the card. it should tell you the name of the file when it asks you for the CD. Browse the CD ( or floppy) for that file, select it and continue. Let it set it up, and youre all set! If you need any more help, just answer back.
P.S
The Wireless hub being underneath something can also affect performance, so make sure its out in the open. Also, the two little monitors on the taskbar indicate performance, clicking refresh repeatedly also helps the connection sometimes ( =

In the Create a new Connection, I can't seem to find the right way to choose. It never asks for the CD (which won't run its auto-play anymore, either) and it still doesn't work. Can you clarify a little on what exactly to do, please please please?

Its okay if the Autorun doesent work, thats expected. Simply put, Linksys makes Xp uncompatible software. it doesent work on mine either. you just need one dll on it. Okay Go to create a new connection. "Set up a Home or small office network" then it should start up the network setup wizard. Follow instructions, it will search for a wireless internet connection on your machine. If you are using an internal card and are connecting to a wirless hub, select "this computer connects through a residential gateway", click next. It should ask you for the CD. insert it, screw the auto run or whatever. Then click the appropriate CD drive containing the disk, when it first asked for the Cd, it said something like "please insert the CD containing example.dll" or something, browse the CD for the file, which should be on there, and then continue. Everything should work fine.
