Hi i have recently bought this burner and i can not get it to show up as an 8x. Both Nero and Ez Creator indicate it as maximum write speed 4x. I was wondering if anybody has access to this writer and if it is indicated as maximum write speed 8x or 4x.

Try Mitsubishi or Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R. They work at 8x in this drive.

Yes thank you i will try them. As i presume you are saying it will say 8x only if the media is capable.

Yes. Writing bad 4x media won't even work at 4x, not to speak about 8x :)
