Hi guys, Id just like to say thanks to Doom9 for getting me started into video editing and encoding. The tutorials on here were instrumental in teaching me the stuff I needed to know.

With that said heres my situation:

I capture video game footage through an S-Video hookup. The recorded footage is compressed using Huffy UV (Lossless) at a resolution of nearly 640x480. My card currently is an ATI Tv Wonder Pro. I use Virtual VCR to capture.

I've been considering an upgrade as the level of darkness is a bit too much with my current card. Ive tested numerous inputs and its all the same, a very dark picture. So heres my question:

Would upgrading my card help increase quality and/or get rid of the darkness Im seeing.

Im considering getting the All In Wonder 9800 from ATI but Ive also heard good things about Hauppauge cards. Anyone know if the AIW beats the hauppauge cards in quality? If its requested Ill post a picture of the darkness Im seeing.

EDIT:
Here are some images

Resident Evil (Gamecube)
The brightness screens default is 80%. However its far too dark when at 80 so I raised it to 100%. As you can see in this screen everything seems to be ok...

But when you get to the menu everything is way too overbright. Theres no middle ground for it either.

Compare those to the Wind Waker shots:

and ingame:

Wind Waker seems to be nice so could it just be that Resident Evil is naturally a dark game? Could upgrading fix some issues and or increase quality?

So much KB for pictures... But no word about setting bright (luminance) at capture properties? Did you try it at all?

Yes, I have. It only modifys the black areas to become more gray but the area is still un-seeable.

Im not as concerned about the darkness as im wondering if changing cards would give me better quality. Since Im capturing to a lossless codec Id need to know if the chip on the new capture card is better than my current cards chip. Does anyone have an answer if there is a better chip thats available at the consumer level?
