Hey. Seen this film before and it's amazing, but I?ve never had a copy. My mate says he has the director's cut. Looked it up on Amazon, they don't sell it any more but there are users trying to sell it.

The cheapest one is £50 but most are from £90-£99!

Has anyone seen the director's cut and can remember what exactly the difference is because it's not like it's a superbit version or anything, they just don't make them anymore so they're getting expensive.

Anyway, I just want to know if it's worth it. Thanks!

I don't know the answer. But I did pop over to www.imdb.com to look things up for you. Perhaps this information might help.

There are 4 DVD releases, but none of them match the cinematic run times. According to imdb, the film was 105 minutes; and in the UK, there was a director's cut that was 126 minutes. It may be the transition from 24 fps to 25 fps. I haven't done the math, but there shouldn't be much difference for the NTSC Telecined version and the theatrical run time... but a difference exists.

When it comes to DVDs, apparently Universal has an R2 German release, 103 minutes long, and an R2/R4 release for UK, Australia, and NZ that is 115 minutes long. Polygram has an R1 for the US that is 108 minutes, and an R2/R4 for UK/Oz/NZ that is 103 minutes.

Of course, imdb shows more distribution credits for DVDs than just Universal and Polygram. For example, Columbia Home Video Brazil has licensed DVD and VHS, LK-Tel in Argentina has licensed video, but I do not know if any discs have been released.

The database shows five different production companies involved in the film's creation. In Great Britain, the production companies were Handmade Films and Ska Films. You might try contacting them for further information, they may be able to point you to the right people at Polygram, Universal, or elsewhere. I Googled the companies to get their contact information for you:

HandMade Films Limited
15 Golden Square
London, England W1R 3AG
Phone (0171) 434-3132; Fax (0171) 434-3143

Ska Films Ltd
2nd Floor
6 Salem Rd
London, England W2 4BU
Tel: 020 7243 9777
Fax: 020 7243 9778

Of course, imdb is not guaranteed to be correct, and doesn't warrant their information. Therefore, neither can I. I can confirm I have seen the R1 version, but I did not see the theatrical release, so have nothing to compare it to. And yes, I enjoyed the film.

103mins 24fps->25fps = 98.88mins
106mins 23.976fps->25fps = 101.65824mins

They indeed don't seem to match up.

good answer/! thanks a lot i'l look into it.

btw, i asked my mate if it's really worth getting the director's cut and he said he only realised the extra scenes when someone told him that they were in the director's cut. so i think i';ll stick to the £8 normal one.

http://www.dvdcompare.net is very nice to have when you want to compare different dvd releases of a movie. A little more info about this particular one can be found at http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=483.
