Hi.

This is about DivX-burning and isn't about DVD-burning. Sorry, I didn't find another place to put it.

mode2cdmaker is an useful tool to create images from oversized DivX-encoded files for burning in Mode 2/XA (e.g., in Nero). Useful because around 60 precious MBs more can be crammed into a 700 MB disc this way.

There's only one problem, though. How does one put the external subtitle files (e.g., those that come with AutoGK) to work ? The mode2cdmaker puts an extension .datafter.avi so that the file becomes moviename.avi.dat, and that, possibly, is the reason why the .idx and .sub files don't work.

Any workaround ?

Regards.

a) write them as mode 1 (read the mode2cd maker help)
b) mux the subtitle files into the AVI file first

Mux sub-file with .avi ?

Sorry for being dense, but how do I do that ? And won't the muxing produce kind of permanent subs?

AVI-Mux GUI can mux soft subs (srt and ssa only) into AVIs

That's the issue. I can't mux .sub and .idx with my .avi, can I? And how do I convert my subs into .srt and back ?

Thanks and regards.

There are two tricks you could try:
- Leave your movie as moviename.avi.dat and rename your subs to moviename.avi.idx and moviename.avi.sub
- Leave your subs as moviename.idx and moviename.sub and change the movie extension from dat to avi (you can do that in the mode2cdmaker GUI)
Also you can convert bitmap subs to text subs using SubRip, but you will be required to manually OCR them.

You could also use MKV instead of AVI, and use mkvmerge for muxing. That can use IDX.

I've used SubRip for ripping subs, yes, but I didn't know one can input bitmap subs into SubRip, too. I'll try it. And your other trick sounds interesting. I'll try and let you know.

And .mkv - this I've never tried. Do I convert the DivX .avi into .mkv ? This sounds interesting, too. But, again, won't the mode2cdmaker put an extension after this .mkv and force me to adopt gircobain's trick ? I'll see. Because I've never tried .mkv, I'll appreciate some links for downloading softwares and guides.

Just read mode2cdmaker's guide: You can prevent it from adding this extension...
