I recently started using CCE and DVDMaestro to author dvd's by using the tutorial guide found at http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/maestro2.htm. The problem I have run into is when I try to take out the extras(vob files). Obviously there is more that must be done to get rid of the extras in movies besides just deleting the vob files, because when i burn the movie and play it on the dvd player it wont play. IT sits there trying to find the menu but never gets to it. Can anyone help me with this problem of deleting extras from a movie with CCE and DVDMaestro?!?!

You have to open your VIDEO_TS.IFO in Ifoedit and correct VTS Sectors (Get VTS sectors).

Me being cautious me, I'd replace each PGC in the extras VTSs with a few frame blank. titlesetblanker (which is free) may help here. MenuEdit (registered version, not sure about free version) should do the trick as well.
That also means that when you click on any extras buttons in the menu, you'll get an extremely short black clip and then bounced back to the menu. No lockups or anything. Of course, disabling the relevant menu buttons using menuedit is a good idea.

Before I try that I have another question. If I wanted to remove a part of a movie (namely the extras), would I just remove the vob files or do I delete the *.ifo and *.bup files associated with the vob files as well?

It is not so easy. If you want to get fully functional backup you canīt simply delete parts you do not want. You should examine the sructure of original and try to not change it. So if you want delete e.g. some bonuses, the safest way is to replace them with some fake still frames and incorporate it back into DVD structure. It cannot be explaned in one post - try to read more detailed guides on doom9īs guide section.

What is very frustrating is that I have done it before! I just can't remember how I did it or what I deleted. Now when you tried to click on the bonuses button in the menu it did lock up, but i was able to get the dvd to play and load the menu. I can't even get it to do that now.

I have looked through all the guides doom9 has to offer for advanced re-authoring. I can't find any of them that talk about removing parts of a movie. They all seem to focus on making a "full copy." Can someone point me in the right direction of where I can find a guide for removing extras from a movie?

u can follow the 'full copy guide' and sustitute the part that corresposnds to the extras with a black 1 sec m2v and a filler audio. Its exactly the same thing.
Although u got a very good reply from Mathew, a few post above.

Why dont you use TitleSet Blanker... it replaces original files with dummy and very small ones and still leaves DVD structure functioning properly... Find it here: http://shh.dvdboard.de/titlesetblanker.html
