View Full Version : How come DVD Decrypter is so good at burning?

I ask this because DVD Decrypter seems to be the only thing that will burn a disk without problems on my XP system.

Does DVD Decrypter use the aspi layer? Although my aspi layer seems to work well with all my ripping tools that require it, burning seems to only work via DVD Decrypter. Perhaps if I understand what it does differently (if so), I can then understand what the problem is with other tools.

I have only recently obtained a DVD burner through the largess of a good friend (new lite-on 811S). I am still very weak on the issues surrounding successful DVD burning. At the present, my number of coasters far outnumber my good burns, and they (good ones) are only with DVD Decrypter. Everything else seems to fail with a yellow light right after leadin is burned.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I think DVD decryptor does not use ASPI

it uses SPTI or Elby CDIO its under the settings

all these would point me to the conclusion that your ASPI install is corrupt and needs redoing

Hardly any programs use ASPI under XP.

Most use / have written their own drivers. It's mainly freeware utils that would use ASPI. None of the 'big name' apps would - i.e. RecordNow Max, InstantCD/DVD, Nero*.

* Nero does use an ASPI dll but I believe its actually just a wrapper for SPTI. Under 9x OS's Nero installs its own drivers and would use those over the 'system' installed ASPI layer.

That said, it's only a communication layer, I cant see why your drive would care about what the programs go via in order to talk to it!

I see this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68131) that Doom9 has the same problem with his 811S. I guess I will just have to chase it down one thing at a time. Until then, I know I can count on DVD Decryptor to get it done.

DDogg, did you try the imgtool classic + deamon tool + nero combo? Sure you did. :) Most stable combination for me so far.

To successfully burn I must use imgtool classic to create an image and then use DVD Decryptor to burn the image. Nero and/or ASPI in general seems to be where my problem is. When I try to set image tool classic to use Nero to burn after image creation it fouls up and I get a coaster. Nero, DVD shrink, and DVD lab fail with a hung yellow/orange light with disc speed surging up and down.

Anyway, in hindsight, I should not have made this post in this forum as it is really just about my burning problems and has nothing to do with decryption. LIGHTNING UK!, feel free to close and/or move it if you wish.
