Hey everybody, my Windows Instraller is all screwed up. I first came across the problem when I couldn't uninstall Norton Anti-Virus 2003. It only had "Change" on the Add-Romove prgrams screen,a nd when i clicked on it it gives me a message saying "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or the Windows Installer is not correctly insatlled. Contact you support personnel for assistance."

I got that when I tried to install Norton Internet Securities via d/l from the Syamntec website, when I was installing it, that same error came up. It happened again when i tried to d/l a program off of the net.

I did a search for Windows Installer on my comp and some programs/setups/installers came up. Each and every1 I clicked on said the same error. I couldn't find anything about on the "help" on my comp. I tried doing a windows update the the windows site, but nothing for my Windows Installer. And when i checked if it was available, the site says its only redistributeable for all systems except for Windows XP

Please, PLEASE help me! I need my windows installer back up so I can install crucial programs (yes, crucial). Any help would be apreciated. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!

Always...
Tommy

DoLFaN,

Welcome to Doom9 forum!

"It only had "Change" on the Add-Romove prgrams screen,a nd when i clicked on it it gives me a message saying "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. From your comment I understand that your system's service of Windows installer is disabled somehow.(May be virus activity..?)

Therefore try enabling it again.

Right click My computer Icon -> "Manage" -> "Services and Applications" -> "Services"

Then findout a service called "Windows installer". Right click and select the properties. Change startuptype to automatic or Manual.(If it is in disabled mode).
Automatic:service starts with Windows.
Manual: Starts only when you try to install.(Or when you want to use the service).

If the Service status is "Stopped" Click on start button to start the service.

Hope that helps...

Oh wow. Hey man, that helped a bunch. It totally got it working again and I even was able to install the things I couldn't. TY so much for the welcome and the help.

It still only had change, however, for Norton Anti-Virus 2003, but after clicking on it a second time (the first time after the change it did get past the install process, which it didn't before) it proceded to uninstall, so it is all good now!

Again, ty Tuning, and I plan on coming to Doom9 over and over again :D
