Question on VHS to DVD backup

I was thinking, could I copy the VHS tape from the VCR to my digital camcorder, then from my digital camcorder to my computer, and then burn a DVD from my computer?

Would it work and will the quality be the same as if I got one of those analog to digital things for my computer.

Yes you could. Depending on your camcorder, you might not even need to re-record the tape. Just connect the camcorder to VCR and through FireWire to the computer, and capture the video straight through. There shouldn't be any additional quality loss.

If your source VHS has Macrovision, you'll have to stick in a video stabilizer between the VHS and your digital camcorder...

OK, thats good. How would I know if my VHS has macrovision. Its a pretty old VHS tape (maybe 10 years)

if it's a commercial tape it may have macrovision, if it's a home movie it shouldn't have macrovision.
