I have a problem with the TV-out on my ati radeon 9700.
The TV-out picture is too bright (or has the wrong gamma setting).
But this only applies to Overlay pictures like movies and DVD in both "theatre mode" and "standard mode".
I first noticed that the black bars on widescreen DVDs are more dark grey than black.
The desktop-black looks good on the tv, but the black bars on the movie are aproximately 15% too bright.
I've tried to adjust the picure with the overlay adjustment available in the ati control panel, but that only affects the picure on the monitor, not the TV.
The only parameters to adjust on the TV-out is the Contrast and the saturation.
However the overlay settings at the default level looks very good on the monitor. The problem is that the standard overlay settings for TV-out is too bright at the default level, and it is impossible to correct (at least I havn't found a way).
I've had the same problem with both catalyst 3.10 and catalyst 4.1. Haven't tried with earlier versions.
The TV is connected directly to the TV-set by a S-Video cable
