I am looking for a new enclosure for my DVD burner (Pioneer DVR-107D) the just released 8X.

I used a Bytecc version I bought from newegg. But it uses a regular computer power plug which is convenient when moving it from computer to computer since these plugs are about $2. However, because the power supply is internal it generates alot of heat. Not sure if that is good for this new 8X which may generate more heat than previous 4X burners. Also with my last Bytecc the fan started making noises and then just died and I did not use it for more than 6 months!

Bytecc now makes one with an external AC adapter which should run cooler. But I need to move the adapter and unplug it every time. Does anyone think it will be easy to find a Radio Shack one to use as a secondary? Also its 1394A and 1394B, not sure if that is backward compatible with my regular 1394 ports.

What enclosure are you using and has it lasted long for you?

Nevermind the Bytecc with the new external power supply is a 3.5" version.

But this CoolMax USB/1394 looks good and has an external adapter which looks quite common and can probably be found in a Radio Shack.

And this one is the one used in Pioneers only external drive:

I've got some cheap 'ice' external firewire enclosures. I to found the fan to be damn loud so I just unpluged the fan. Still runs fine so i'm happy. And i didn't have to remove any waranty stickers to get to the fan :)

Very happy with the CoolMax I got from newegg.

The fan is much quieter than the one on my old BYTECC enclosure. Since it is aluminum it will also keep the drive very cool. Another plus is the AC adapter is very standard and I can get a second one at RadioShack for work.

I connected a new Pioneer DVR-107 drive to it and burned a 4X Ritek DVD-R using firewire connection in 15:10
