Yesterday I bought an Emprex dvd writer, (I know its not the best brand, but price was a factor) and I cant really seem to write at faster then 1x. It has a 4x max write speed, but here’s what happened: bought the bruner, then I went out to but some dvd’s, I buy the compusa brand dvds, I get home and realize that they are 1x, next day I got back and return them, and I but a 25 pack of liquidvideo dvd-r’s, on the box it says that thay are 2x, but I can only write at 1x, I use the nero cd-dvd speed, and it says that its also 1x. please help, anyone know whats going on? my drive came with a 2.4 dvd-rw, which works fine, but its just that the dvds I bought wont write at 2x, sould I return them and buy a different brand? The brand should not matter should it? Please help. should i return my burner and wait until i can get something better? Thanks in advance.

I guess you already know that Emprex writers are BTC OEMs ...regarding 2x DVD-R: there is no standard for this, every drive manufacturer has to tune his firmware to burn a particular make of dvd-r at that speed.

And yes, therefore the brand does matter. I have no idea what sort of dvd-rs compusa is labelling/selling, but try some quality media like Mitsubishi, Taiyo Yuden (or even Ritek G03).

I have no idea if btc makes good burners these days, my last btc drive was a 2x CD-ROM :D.
