View Full Version : DVD +/-R vs. +/- RW

I've been running into the same repeated problem with two seperate DVD burners, and with two seperate software/harware combinations.

in general, I find that when I rip and burn one of my original DVDs to a DVD +RW, I can usually get a good working disk. If I attempt to use the same process to burn the DVD to a DVD +R disk, I get a flawed copy.

When I test the disk image with a software DVD player, the ripped version of the movie plays fine. When I try to play the burned +RW disc in my tabletop DVD player, it plays fine, but when I try to play the +R version of the same film, it does not work.

I even tried changing media brands... same result.

I finally broke down and purchased a spindle of +RW discs, but that doesn't really answer the problem, it's just a kludge to get around it. I would really love to hear what some of you might think is the problem.

Thanks.

Have you tried writing to a -R discs?
Have you tried changing the bitsetting mode of your writer?

thanks for the thought gooki, no, I have not tried -r disks yet, that's my next step.

My older burner is a Verbatim, +R only. the new burner is the Lite-on 4X combo burner. I'm working on a wedding vid right now, maybe I'll try it with that movie.

Thanks

The other thing to consider is that your drive/burning software may not be finalising discs properly.

I highy recomend you update to the latest firmware for that liteon drive if you haven't already.
