Currently I'm using DVD Decrypter 3.1.9.0 and because I have some dvd's with some minor scratches, my nec-1300A fails to rip them to my harddrive.
I've tried to set the read speed to 1x, but still my read speeds are up to 3.5x. Why does the "Set read speed" not work? Or is this function not for this purpose?

Silly me did a bad cut and paste job of some other code from the program and so it always sets it to 'max'.
Its fixed in the next version, dont you worry.
That said, very few drives support changing the read speed. I know my NEC 2500a does though, so I expect your 1300 will too.

My 1300 reads only at 1x-2x, it's really slow. :( What can I do to make it faster ? Thx.

check DMA is enabled on your drive (via device manager)
If it is and you're running XP, delete your ide controller and reboot. Windows should then enable DMA properly as it adds the controller back and you'll be able to rip at full speed.
That said, perhaps the 1300 is locked at 2x when reading CSS protected discs?
Can you burn at 4x?

I can burn at 4x, I also upgraded with the last firmware but nothing to do, it is hard to go upper than 2x-3x ripping. DMA is enabled but the maximum is DMA 2.

Oh well, maybe that's all the drive can do on those discs.
If you want a fast reader, buy a reader.
