Hey guys I have a couple questions. Which file splitting option should I use to split at a closed GOP. I have been playing around with distributing the vob's to different machines to encode. I have tried splitting by cell i.d. but still get errors in DVD2AVI that some of the vob files have an open GOP and frames are lost. I have read extensively in the DVD2AVI forum. Recently there was a great debate on this issue in the DVD2AVI forum, and an update to DVD2AVI to try and correct this issue. The recommendations from the DVD2AVI staff were to split at a closed GOP. I thought maybe you could shed some light on this subject for me. I will keep trying different solutions. I thought I had the solution by splitting at cell I.D., but still get this error when opening some of the files. Maybe this is a DVD2AVI issue. One other issue that isn't really a big problem is the naming of the vob files when splitting by cell i.d. is not recognized by programs like DVD2AVI. I have been renaming the file to try and trick the programs. Some handle this alright but DVD2AVI doesn't really like it. It will only open the first 9 files and you have to manually add the rest. I'm not sure how the ifo file is affected by renaming the vob files. Thank you for any info on these issues. I will keep reading up on this. Sorry if they are off the wall questions but I know this can be done. I just always wanted to try it on a windows machine. Thanks.

I have recieved an answer to this question in the DVD2AVI forum.

Actually this recommendation is somehwat contradictory as it usually isn't possible to decide on whether to split the file at an open/closed GOP. Well prepared DVD's does have closed GOP's at the end of cells, but you can't be sure of that until you've tried.

Thanks
