Hi all,
I have many mpg/vcd files. Instead of burning them each on a cd-r, is there anyway to burn about 6 or 7 of them onto 1 single dvd+r and add a menu to play it on my dvd player? Is there such program?
Thank You.

If your mpgs are vcd-compliant, you can resample the audio to 48kHz and use e.g. tmpgauthor or dvdlab to author a DVD with menu. There is also a guide on doom9 - http://www.doom9.org/mpg/svcd2dvdr.htm describes it for svcd, but the procedure is identical for vcd (skip the patching steps, they are not required).

Smiller667:
I went to http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/svcd2dvdr.htm and followed all the procedures. I am able to combined 10 vcd files into 1 dvd image file. Ran SpruceUP and was able to get an image of it. However, I can't get the audio to work. I set the sample rate to 48000 HZ as instructed and it output a mp2 file which I can play on media player. The video and audio file has the same name. But as soon as I add it to SpruceUp and run stimulate mode, audio doesn't work. Is there a piece of the puzzle I am missing?
Thank You...

I don't have SpruceUp, but on dvdrhelp I saw that it "does not accept mp2 audio, but MPA and AC3 no problem" - have you tried simply renaming the mp2 to mpa?
Other than that, perhaps a Spruceup user could offer some more help here ... alternatively, give e.g. tmpg dvdauthor a try.

Hi,
does Spruceup import the audio at all? I took the liberty and did a search for "spruceup mp2" and came up with the following links:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23800&highlight=spruceup+mp2

I guess you are in NTSC land? Then using only mp2 audio wouldn't be standard-compliant according to the link given in the first posting above. I am in PAL country, I haven't encountered this problem so far (using dvdlab or tmpg dvd author).

I created a dvd image of the video but it doesn't have any audio. Since I am still playing it on my PC, NTSC or PAL doesn't matter does it? Also, I noticed a part of the video was jumping and skipping. Any reason for that?
Thanks...

Hi,
I got a working image from spruceup now...has video and audio. However, certain chapters/vcd are jerky...frame rates fluctuating and little pauses here and there. My PC is AMD 2600 and was only running the spruceup program at the time when doing all the conversion. On the simulate mode, the video is fine though. What could be causing the problem?
Thanks...

dvd author from www.pegasys-inc.com
(free for 30 days)
Just open the aveseq01.dat file in dvd author (view all files)
it does everything else for you. (only the sound gets recoded)
add new track1, then add file vcd part1 and vcd part2
add new track2, then add file vcd part1 and vcd part2
etc
why are you guys making such a meal out of something
so simple to do??

glad to be of help
you can also do the same with SVCD files
but you need to use dvd patcher to first patch all the ENTIRE mpg files you intend to use (not just the header) to 352x480,
run it through dvd author then use dvd patcher again on the finished .vob files to patch the ENTIRE data vobs back to 480x480. (no recoding involved at all)
so if you ended up with
vts_01_0.vob (title vob)
vts_01_1.vob (data vob)
vts_01_2.vob (data vob)
you would need to run dvd patcher on
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
before burning to dvdr
its just because dvd author will not accept a resolution of 480x480
as that exceeds the dvd standard, but most players play it anyway.

Thanks...
I haven't tried multiple SVCD on DVD yet. However, my DVD player plays SVCD if it's burned on CD-R. Do I still need to run DVD patch twice on that???

dvd patcher is only because dvd authoring proggys
will not accept that resolution (480 x 480) mpeg video streams.
the players will play em, you are just not allowed to.
(unless you cheat with dvd patcher)
