Hi, i need some help. I've been using ulead dvd workshop to author my dvds, but I need a tool to quickly clip commercials out of mpeg2 videos. Any recommendations since dvd workshop doesn't seem to be able to do it. I know tmpgenc author has that feature to cut certain parts from the video, but I still favor workshop over tmpgauthor.
thanks,
dave

Read Doom9's DVB Guide (http://www.doom9.org/DigiTV/dvbs-soft.htm), MPEG2Schnitt is described there. The program itself is in English.

It's very convenient to use TMPGEnc DVD author for MPEG cutting only. Make a simplest DVD there without menus or anything, then demux the VOBs and feed them to any other authoring program. TDA can cut VOBs with AC3 audio, too.

I hate to sound like a lil bitch...but I don't like any of these... Seems like i'm going to use dvd author until I can find a proggy that i like for mpeg2 cutting.

In regards to price, how do I know section31 is not a billionare? :P I was only concerned about the quality of the product, price didn't factor into my assessment.
I've only ever cut elementary mpeg-2 streams so can't comment much about audio sync issues and M2Edit Pro. I suspect that's always going to be an issue with mpeg-2 cutting though.
But I can say, M2Edit hasn't trancoded my output, except I believe it will transcode the few frames around i-frames, if you don't cut on an i-frame. AFAIK that's the nature of the beast though, and womble does it too.
Anyway, my point is I've found M2Edit Pro great when dealing with elementary streams, and more tentatively, that it may be the format that is to blame for the sync issues.

The MPEG-tools inside TMPEGEnc also allows cutting and merging mpeg2 files. It's a little difficult to operate on large files, but it can do the job and it's free:
- Select the part from start till first commercial and write it to 1.mpg
- Select the part after the 1st commercial till the 2nd commercial and write it to 2.mpg
etc.
Then merge all the parts together again.
Note that it is not possible with this program to cut with frame-accuracy, only on i-frame accuracy.
Good luck,

Yeah I figured that out bymyself..but yeah ur right..its a bit too many steps for my taste... mpeg2cut works pretty well aslo but it conly crops video...really nothing else. Perhaps in the future they will allow actual cutting.
