I am new to this. I would really appreciate if someone could recommend settings in TMPGEnc to convert 320x240 avi to PAL DVD. When I just load the default PAL DVD settings, it plays okay on my computer, but on my tv and standalone player (Xbox) the picture is messed up with weird colors and sound is ruined too. I have tried various settings and I also tried AVI2DVD without any luck.

I know that it might be better to capture at 352x288 but my terratec tvalue card wont cature at that resolution. When I try it, I get a big green line at the bottom and a distorted picture.

My sound is captured at 44.1 so I need TMPGEnc to convert that too.

Do I select ES (Audio + Video) or System (Audio + Video). Also I dont know what the other settings should be.

My sorce is a PAL VCR. I am caturing with virtaldub 320x240, which is the most my card will do. I think it is captured in pal. How do I check?

I dont know how to setup TMPEnc to encode it to DVD correctly

It's pretty easy to check to see if you are capturing a PAL .avi file. Look at the frame rate. If it's 25 fps, you are capturing PAL.

There is one FAQ and there are four step-by-step guides I would like to point you to, which might help you get your capture and conversion to DVD accomplished. The Capture FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32575) from the Analog Capture forum. It may help regarding your capture card settings.

The Capture Guide (http://www.doom9.org/capture.htm) may help with your capture to .avi procedures. It has post-processing steps for MPEG-4 and SVCD, but not for DVD.

One of our moderators, bb, wrote a terrific DV to DVD Guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60392). DV is a format of .avi file from digital video cameras, and while the DV-specific information is not necessarily useful, the .avi to DVD steps will help you get started.

Doom9 has two AVI -> DVD±R guides in his Format Conversions (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm) page.

I have read all the guides and FAQs you are referring to. My framerate is 25, so its PAL.
I have tried different settings but I always get the same result with a screen full of colored squares and weird blocky sound.

There must be something I have to set different in tmpenc under video or advanced. How would you do it with at 320x240 avi with 25 framerate and 44.1 sound when converting to dvd format?
