Hi all,

Can anyone help me with my problem?

I have WinXP, and under 'Control Panel' > 'Internet Options' > 'Connections' > 'Settings' for the connection > 'Properties' and on the 'General' tab I have a tick in the check box for 'Show icon in notification area when connected' but whenever I connect to the internet the icon is not displayed. My taskbar is not locked and 'Hide inactive icons' is not ticked.
With the icon not being displayed I do not know at what speed I am connected, and I do not know how to disconnect without this icon being there ... I shutdown the PC to disconnect from the internet.
I am using Mozilla 1.6.
Does anyone know what process / .exe displays the connection icon? just in case mine is missing?

thanks for any help

(frustrated) MattO

Create a shortcut from 'My Network Places' -> <your internet connection> -> to your desktop.
Double-click on it and you should see connection speed and you should also be able to disconnect.

I have something like that in my system too. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP1a and sometimes when I manage to connect and Norton Internet Security shows the usual protection messaqe on the alerter and when I try to close that thingie that pops to inform about successful connection and connection speed the "thingie" gets stuck and the taskbar becomes unresponsible. That is, for only a short time cause after some ctrl+alt+dels evereything goes back to normal because the task manager has decided to finnally pop up. But because sometimes the icon of the connection closes as well my workaroun is to go to start->connect to->(insert connection name) and click show the connection properties. Then just click properties and and disable the 'Show icon in notification area when connected' option and hit OK. Then click properties again but this time enable the 'Show icon in notification area when connected' option and hit OK. This should work. You could also create a new account with default sttings and try to conect from that one and see what happens.
