View Full Version : AVI to VCD problem

I am new to this - so apologies if obvious but I have read the Q&As and can't see anything directly related.

I have an AVI on the computer which I'm burning to VCD in Nero using CUE and BIN files taken from DVD2VCD. I use the process recommended on the doom9.org website.

Everything appears to work fine (no errors I can see during the process - it plays on my computer) until I play the VCD on my DVD player. It doesn't work.

Basically, every 4th frame is fine, but the 3 intervening frames are displayed incorrectly with only the top half of the screen displayed very unclearly with washed colouring.

My DVD player plays VCDs (I own a couple).

Working off a few of the Q&As which seem a little bit related, I've tried a couple of different options (NTSC to PAL, putting in a 2 second offset at the start of the movie, and burning it at the slowest possible speed) but appear to get the same results each time.

Apologies by the way if this is in the wrong forum - I'm not really sure whether this a burning problem or a DVD2VCD problem ....
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong?

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
:goodpost: for a first timer!

The logfile you posted looks OK and if the result plays on your PC it probably is OK. My first suspicion is a burning problem.

Try the method detailed in Q61 in the Q+A (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21859) and let us know if it helps.

Cheers
Nick

Thanks for the advice.
Cool tool! :thanks:
Unfortunately I got the same result.
As before it works fine on the computer - in this case both the virtual and the actual CD - but as before when I transfer to the DVD player only 1 in every 4 frames displays correctly.

you mentioned you have vcds, are they real vcds (meaning pressed origionals not copies) reason i ask is , your player may be having a hard time with cdrs. what model player do you have. check it against the vcdhelp.com dvd player list (check if it plays cdr vcds). also download one of their free vcd-image examples and see how they play burned onto cdr. just some suggestions

Thanks. Yes they are real - or at least I bought them. I have checked the site you mention - but haven't tried downloading the tests.
Thanks again.

I'd have almost been happier if the test material on vcdhelp hadn't worked. Unfortunately it worked fine. I guess this means that at least I can do it as long as I have the right input....
Do I just give up on the AVI I have?

Have now tried it with another AVI from another source completely - and the same thing happened.
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?
