I want to capture my VHS tapes to disk..I require info on pre-capture IE the Player..Should I buy a Time base Corrector separate to a SVCR or should I look at purchasing a Professional SVHS deck with TBC incorporated like a Panasonic or Sony....Has any member had top results from any particular system and if so could they advise me..I have been continually browsing Ebay and note many professional decks on offer...I would prefer a multi format system but it seems these are basicly impossible to get so I have to get PAL.
There is a couple of questions I would appreciate an answer to ..I presume all professional SVCR decks take a normal VHS tape? and I see MD units which I believe are for medical practice... Are these a practical unit to consider buying...
Its only practical for me to buy in the States and then have airfreighted over to New Zealand so I need to make sure I get things 100% right before I start throwing away my hard earn't money.
Any information would be gratefully received ..
Thanks Ron.

Any SVHS deck can take normal VHS tapes too.

I wouldn't suggest getting a medical deck, that just seems like a waste.

I don't know anything about time base correctors, but I haven't had any trouble capturing video without one.. (unless I have one in my deck and I don't know it)

Thanks for your views..Unfortunately where I live,I am not in a position to enable me to walk into a shop etc and discuss this subject, simply because they do not know what I am talking about...I have to rely on articles on the net etc for guidance...Two such articles that I place creedance with, point out that a SVHS player is better than a VHS and that a TBC can add quality to what one is capturing...further I have a messaging friend in New York who after capturing his VHS tapes decided to buy a TBC and try it out...He informed me that due to the quality gained he is now recapturing all his tapes...thats why I am considering SVHS and TBC.
SO I could buy a DataVideo 3000 TBC here in NZ for round NZ$750..I will still need to get a SVHS deck...it occured to me that I may be better off spending aprox the same money on a Semi Pro SVHS Deck w-built in TBC..say on US Ebay.
I am hoping that someone with knowledge of the various decks available ,could give me guidance ...
Then when I have as many facts as I can ,I have to decide whether to accept my present captures or spend money and try for better..
Thanks Ron
