Just got a new drive and I cant get either dvddecripter or smartripper to rip faster than 2.1x.

DMA is enabled on my drives

Since my DVDRW drive is not in PIO, it should rip faster than this right. I remember when I used a DVD-Rom drive, whenever it wasn't in PIO I could usually just close Smatripper and reopen, and it would rip at 5-7x. I have tried rebooting, and unistalling drivers via the device manager (though I shouldn't need to since it's already in DMA?), but it still rips as 2x.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What DVDRW do you have? Most are locked at 2x for CSS protected media.

I think that's what it might be.

It's a Memorex Dual Format 4x2.4x12 Internal IDE DVD+/-R +/-RW Drive.

I first had my dvdrom as slave. CD writer was master. With dvdrom as slave I also could only rip 2x. Now I changed those 2 drives and ripping speed is much higher. If it's not the drive limit that could be the cause too.

It was indeed the drive. I have since flashed with 3rd party firmware and I can rip at normal speeds. Thanks for the help.
