View Full Version : What lossless YUV codec should I use to export YUV video from Premiere Pro?

According to Adobe, Premiere Pro will output YUV video when it's set to an output codec that accepts YUV (such as DV). What is the best lossless YUV codec to use for export?
My first choice would be HuffYUV, but I've read that the original HuffYUV has some interlacing bugs. Also, HuffYUV accepts both YUV and RGB input - how will I know which format Premiere chose for export if the codec supports both formats?
Does anyone know of a stable, reliable YUV codec I could use? Or is HuffYUV safe?

I havent had any problems with earlier versions - but this one should be safe.

Well, I tried using HuffYUV as both the rendering and export codec in Premiere Pro - and still got RGB32 output anyway. Essentially, I created a new project, set HuffYUV as the rendering codec, then imported a YUY2 clip, placed it on the timeline and exported it to HuffYUV. When I opened the exported file in Avisynth, it reported RGB32 to be the pixel format.
Has anyone had any luck forcing YUV export in Premiere Pro with any codec?

Gonna bump this cause i'd really like to know.
I have a large project in Premiere Pro that I need to export, without loss, to several separate files so that I can encode them independently. Using uncompressed AVI for export is just too damn big and time consuming.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, I am actually currently using this. My post was more in regards to how to be able to feed multiple encoders from one timeline in Premiere, so I can have multiple machines encoding but just reading from my single timeline. For instance, I might have a 10 hour timeline and need to make 5 DVD's out of it as fast as possible.
I am in talks with the author of the Pluginpac Frameserver that you linked to, so maybe this will happen in the future. In the meantime, is there something like HuffYUV that will work with Premiere Pro and NOT perform any colorspace conversion on the exported file(s)?

I have never used it, so I have no idea about stability, quality etc., but the codec below is lossless and does yuv2 and yv12.

PICVideo has a lossless too, but I don't know what that does.

The colour space is called "YUY2", not "YUV2".
