Hi,

I am looking for tools supporting animated GIF import and that can produce a movie in another format (for example Divx, MPEG, ... compression).

Could you give me some infos ?

It seems that popular tools (like AviSynth, VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod) do not support this kind of files... It must be because of the Unisys patent...

Could you point me to other lossless compression format with fast decompression (i.e not PNG) ?

Unisys patent expired a while ago. Can't ImageReader open GIF files? Anyway, Animation Shop (http://www.jasc.com) can export AVI files from GIF.

@mf: Not in quite a few countries (not in the UK till about June this year I think from memory). I had to apply for use of the unisys patent of lzw compression a while back. $3500 was the price !

According to this page :
http://www.unisys.com/about__unisys/lzw/

Unisys patent expired June 20, 2003 in the US.
But it still holds till June 18, 2004 in the United Kingdom, France,
Germany and Italy, June 20, 2004 in Japan, and July 7, 2004 in Canada.

I am not able to read any gif file with ImageReader with AviSynth and Visual Media Player...

I will try Animation shop...

Any other tool ?

Gif Movie Gear should be able to do this.

GIF Movie Gear seems very limited in the kind of GIF files it can export to AVI.

When I try to save my GIF file in AVI format, I get the following error : “unable to write an AVI file with transparency or local palettes in the animation”...

Any other program ?
