Hi
Is there a way to change the framerate of an SVCD without reencoding it? if yes, how?
thx

You can make an 24fps movie to behave like a 30fps in NTSC using Pulldown, but I think that's it. AFAIK all other combinations require reencoding and use of specialized filters.

damn... I want to make a pal svcd out of a ntsc svcd..... but if I reencode, the quality gets lower :(

There's a lot of things you must change when going from NTSC to PAL, frame rate is just the simplest one. However, if the source is good, you may get satisfactory results on an encode like that. Give it a try. You may be surprised.

Demultiplex it with Tmpgenc. Load the video stream into Restream (http://shh.dvdboard.de/restream.html), change the framerate to what ever you want and then click "Write". Now, you have a video stream with a different framerate.

For the audio following section 3 on the the following guide: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/166237.php. The example is for converting ntsc to pal, but besweet can be used to change it the other way as well.

Once you've converted the audio, remultiplex the two files back together using Tmpgenc.

Hmmm. And what about aspect ratio? Please try and report back. It is an interesting challenge.

When you load the video stream into Restream, it automatically gets the correct aspect ratio or resolution. Leave both alone, just change the framerate. The svcd needs to be burned as a non compliant SVCD.

You mean that by just changing the AR on the stream it displays properly, resized on the fly? So I could encode all my NTSC DVDs as PAL SVCDs, in order to use a more detailed resolution, and then tamper the stream and get it to play correctly on my NTSC player & TV?

Have you tried that stuff and it works?

thx, I tried converting the audio with besweet, but if I remultiplex them, tmpg says illegal audio stream... what now?

Ok, I solved it... it had the wrong bitrate.
But now the Audio is very low... it sounds like very slow motion :)
But I guess, thats the only way without a reencode :(

Well, it seems to work fine on both of my DVD players. I guess you'll just have to try for yourself and see what the results are like.

Yes, although I use Cool Edit pro to Convert the audio framerate using the following method:

1) Convert the mp2 to a wav with TMPGenc.

2) Open the wav in cool edit pro. Then I go to Effects > Time / Pitch > Stretch and change. Move the bar until the ratio is 100.

To get the correct new length of audio you need to calculate as follows:
length/new frame rate * old framerate, i.e to convert NTSC(29.97) to PAL you would do length/25 * 29.97

Then enter the new length, click ok and save the audio as a wav.

3) Convert the wav back to an mp2 with TMPGenc.

4) Remultiplex audio and video.

I did a quick test with Besweet, but the the final audio sounded slightly messed up (Slow), so probably best to use Cool Edit for the audio.

Gotta try that stuff. You never stop learning in this forum.
