i found different matrices to use in CCE, like:

or i found people getting with restream the original matrices
used for encoding each movie.

i'd like to know, which matrices should i use?
stayin with the standard ones, better the CCE or MPEG2 standard?
and lookin for the original matrices with restream, is it worth it?

It completely depends on what you´re trying to accomplish, i. e. how much bitrate do you have to spare.

For SVCD´s I usually use this matrix.

For "normal" bitrate DVD´s try the CCE standard matrix and for high bitrate the MPEG2 standard matrix. I only played once with an original matrix, and was not satisfied with the result, so I let it go.

i see ArchStanton, i'm talking about dvdr backup.
so you stick with the standard ones...
what do you consider a normal/high average bitrate?
something like 3000kbps for normal and 4000 for high?

For me a high bitrates begin at ~5000kbps. 3000kbps is already a low bitrate and as always of course, it also depends on the quality and compressibility of the source.

Btw the whole matrices thing is much more important for SVCDs than it is for DVDs, so don´t bother to much ;)
