View Full Version : Wonky subtitle colours in Maestro

Okay, here's another one: My subtitles (in .son) format load fine in DVDMaestro and display fine as well -- but the colours are all wrong.

I know for sure that I set the colours to DVDMaestro in Subrip. I tried setting it both to 4-bit and 8-bit, but the rsult is the same: subtitles are displayed with blue blotches and purple sprinkles. Very weird.

Any clues?

Double click on any subtitle and in second tab chose Edit Palette and then load .spf file that should be generated with .son and bitmaps. This will give you proper colors.

That did the job. Thanks a bundle!

Hm, looks like I spoke too soon.

My subtitles look fine in Maestro's "edit subtitle" preview window, once I load the SPF file as you instructed.

However, when I compile the DVD, the subtitles still show as a blotchy mess.

It could be something to do with the fact that I'm using Video-CD standard MPEG-1 as my video source... Although the subtitles *are* displayed in the correct position and size, just not the right colours.

Is there anything else I could be doing wrong?

Never did any project with MPEG-1 video stream :(
Did you checked on standalone? or just some software player? The latter tend to have their own way of displaying subs (i have WinDVD and Sonic Cineplayer and they both display subs in quite different way). If You didn't do it earlier then please check how standalone displays them. What resolution are bitmaps? (from previous experience with SVCD i know that bitmaps should always be 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL)
Other than that i've no idea what could be wrong...

I haven't tried it on a standalone yet, but I'll report as soon as I have. Still, I have little hope, since the subtitles as displayed in WinDVD are absolutely unreadable. The subtitle BMP size is 720x480, as per Doom9's instructions.

Ah well, it's probably something to do with the VCD. Shame, that. I was ripping Trigun, hoping to be able to replicate the subtitles, Japanese and English audio streams. Guess I'll just have to hard-encode the subtitles and stick to Japanese.

Thanks for your help!
