I can't change the burn speed in Nero 5.10. The only option it has in the drop down menu is 2.4x which is the speed of my Memorex DVD+RW drive. I have some cheap media and I would like to see if it will make any difference if I lower the speed to 1x.

Just can't seem to find a way to drop it down in Nero. Maybe I need a firmware upgrade(or downgrade) for the Memorex drive?

Probably - how robust is the memorex firmware upgrade procedure? is possibly killing you burner worth using the cheap media?

An upgrade to a newer version of Nero may help, how old is your burner? I had a similar issue with a ASUS combo drive, nero would only offer half the nominated burn speed of any media, an upgrade (from 5.10) to 6.15 fixed the problem for a couple of brands of blank CD but not another.

Memorex drive is only one year old. It doesn't matter what medium I use (they are all rated at 2.4) I just can't change the burn speed. The only speed available is 2.4x. I read nero automatically detects the media and the drive so that you get the maximum speed. But there's gotto be a way to slow the speed since it does not cause any harm slowing it down.

I can burn just fine at 2.4x but I ran into a few bad batches that freezes upon playback, which prompted me to see if I can burn with lower speed.

BTW, I have Shuttle Cube mobo not AUSU. I think I can try to upgrade to 6.xx Nero but I heard that's been a bit buggy as well. Maybe the earlier versions at least. So naturally, without knowing that would definitely fix the problem, I am hesitant to upgrade.
