Hiya
I use Nero, and normally the buffer fills up and a CD is burnt with no problems.

Then yesterday, for some unknown reason the buffer decides never to fill up, hovers on 0-1% my PC goes snail slow so I have to wait till CD is finished burning before I can use PC again. And you can hear the CD drive stopping and starting while burning (coz of buffer not getting filled up) although the disc itself is fine after burn. I've tried reinstalling ASPI layers from dvd2svcd page in case, checked for spyware, no antivirus is running to slow it down, HD was only formatted 10days ago, and so far, no luck yet :(

anyone know how to sort this kind of problem? oh yes, and IDE controllers are in DMA mode too

I've tried uninstalling Nero and putting it back on and it's still the same

thanks in advance,
Tuck

First of all strip out msconfig, there may be programs other that adware/spyware slowing your machine down. Check the size of your page file, make sure its between 2 and 2.5x your physical RAM, making the minimum and maximum the same. Defrag your HDD too.

No point reinstalling ASPI as Nero uses its own ASPI layer.

If you have a XP CD run sfc /scannow from a command prompt to make sure some 3rd party software hasn't replaced any or your Windows files.

If none of this works you could always try System Restoring back to a time when it was working OK. Also have you changed the brand of discs your using?

You could also try increasing the cache and buffer sizes in File > Preferences of Nero.

Make sure your drive is still using DMA. Sometimes it will be switched to PIO.
