Subtitles with CCE I cannot see them

I have ripped several dvds using tmpgenc. When they do not compile with ifoedit because of buffer overuns I use srt2sup to rework the subtitles and all ends up well.
For the first time ever I used CCE and when I subsequently applied ifoedit I got the buffer overrun error. Again I used srt2sup and the movie was then compiled by ifoedit but the subtitles do not show. They are there in my movie only version to turn on / off but I cannot see them.
So my obvious question is:
What to do to see my movie subtitles on screen?

Stop Press! If I use the excellent guide giving another method to obtain a dvd file set using ifoedit:
"Remuxing a *.m2v file created with ReMPEG2"
at the www.ifoedit.com site then the subtitles are there.
However this brings up two new problems:
The subtitle colors while attractive are not the same as the original. This is no big deal.
The video motion is choppy and jerky unlike the dvd created by the previous method of creating the dvd but with invisible subtitles.
Any comments on fixing this new problem?
