View Full Version : Audio & Video running out of synch :-(

Hi everybody!
This problem accompanies me although I even formatted by harddrive.
In every Mediaplayer (Classic, Zoomplayer, Windows Media Player 9, VLC Media Player, BS Player) I used, video and audio run out of synch as soon as I forward or rewind the video a few times. Then I have to restart the video in order to fix the asynchronity. Sometimes the video readjusts itself without restarting, but that doesn't happen too often. Any suggestions on how to solve this prob? Could it be my onboard Sound making trouble?? But I didn't have that problem before!
Another thing that might be worth mentioning: Since a couple of weeks my videos seem to be a bit damaged or as least the repsective decoder doesn't play them correctly. When I play certain videos (only mpeg1 videos as far as I discovered) some frames seem to be corrupt, because the picture is either distorted, strangely coloured artifacts make these certain frames unwatchable and the sound "squeaks" very loud, all that just for a short part of a second.
But I don't think that my videos are the problem, because my VLC Media Player displays all videos correctly. In some way this player is special, but I can't explain why. So if this player is able to decode the videos without errors it might be a problem not situated in the videos themselves. What do you think??
Thank in advance!

Ok seriously this time. How fast is your system? After a FF the system just might not be able to keep up. At work we have a 450MHz that does the same thing if you turn up too much detail or have the software do too much CPU intensive stuff. Older codecs like divx3.11 run better on older equipment.
Flask would make movies that got out of sync if you ff or rw but a extra run thru Virtual Dub would interlace the A/V frames better so they would work better (or something like that). Point is VD fixed em.
Lastly the videos may indeed contain correctable errors just like the sound from a cd. One player may have better error correction then the others. Also you may be right. The fact that they play fine on one player does seem to prove that nothing is wrong with the source file.
Can you burn a couple and see if they play on another system?

I had a similar problem with various media players--they wouldn't play the audio at all. It does seem like a problem with the codecs. I eventually did a safe recovery on the whole computer, and now everything is good. Try reinstalling the media player programs, and if that doesn't work, you might consider a recovery.

I have a 3GHz system with 1GB RAM...this can't be the reason.
The thing with the safe recovery: I don't know why this should fix my problems, because even formattting my drive didn't work for me.
I will try reinstalling the codecs, but I doubt this will have any effect.
And using VLC Media Player as my standard player: no way! This player is so uncomfortable. I only use it to play videos that contain invalid data or videos that trouble my codecs in any other way.

Honestly, to give a serious answer isn't possible with your information.
Which format is your movie (AVI/OGM/MKV/MPEG/RV...)
You also need to know which content the containers contain...if it's AVI/OGM run "Gspot", if it's MKV install the "MatroskaProp".
Then you know which DirectShow filters (decoders) you need.
I hope you didn't install any "codec pak" which are mostly responsible for such problems and mess up your system.
If your movies are corrupted...they are coruppted!
Zoomplayer and MPC are very good players...maybe you have to check the options.
If you use Zoomplayer, goto options --> system and you'll see the installed/missing decoders for the most important decoders.

I said in my first posting that only MPEG1 videos are concerned (I rechecked and figured out that also MPEG2 data is concerned).
And I have to admit that I installed the Tsunami Filter Pack :-( It was the only Codec Pack - so far- that didn't cause any trouble on my machine. K-Lite Pack, Nimo Packetc. messed up my system. And I liked the Codec Sniper which comes with Tsunami Filter Pack.
Thanks for your advise! I will see if uninstalling the Tsumani thing will fix my problem.

Hey cool! Problem fixed! It was indeed this crappy Filter Pack! Thanks a lot! But I really don't understand why codec packs mess up systems like that! How can that be??
Btw, the problem with those damaged frames (only mpeg1 videos) still persists :-(

I hope that uninstalling is enough...some codec packs mess up the registry settings, still after uninstalling.
MPEG2 should work if WinDVD/PowerDVD is installed.
(MPC has an internal MPEG2 video decoder,so you only need the "AC3Filter" for the audio.
MPEG1 should work without installing any extra codecs.
I would recommend to install the needed codecs extra by hand.
You mostly need not more than 10 Codecs...for that you don't need a codec pack with lots more codecs.

Now I installed by hand DivX pro 5.1 (do I still need 3.11a then?) , HuffYUV 2.1, Intel Indeo 5.11, AC3Filter, 3ivx D4 4.5, Intel i263 and an MPEG2 decoder was still installed...Is that ok? Or which codecs should I install addditionally?
Btw, is there a way to tell windows to use another video codec for MPEG1 data? Maybe another codec will decode my videos without damaged frames.
