I'm new to this stuff. I am giving TMPEG Author a trial run, and my first try confused me. I included a number of VOB files from different places (some were from old VHS tapes, captured and encoded) and some were from my concert DVDs. All of these VOB files played perfectly individually. I loaded them in, using the standard settings. I got a message saying that several of the files were too large, which didn't make sense because there should have been plenty of room. I chose to ignore the message at which point the program said I would burn a nonstandard DVD. Fine, I was using a RW disk and just wanted to see what would happen. I set up a simple menu. I used a new track for each clip, which I thought was what you were supposed to do. AFter burning to file, I then burned it to DVD. I got a DVD that started playing on clip 1, but if I clicked menu I could see the menu, which functioned; it just didn't start out with it. Second, several of the tracks had no sound; one had hissing sound. The old taped files all had sound intact. What did I do wrong? What settings should I use for audio in this situation? Thanks for any help....Rick

To start out with a spesific item on a dvd disk u must set the 'Firt_Play item', in your case it happens to be this clip, probably the 1st one u had inserted in the disk.
Your old tape clips have one sound track positioned in the 1st of the 8 available places in the vob files.
The clips that u have ripped and r soundless is possible that have their audio in another posisiton. Click on the audio button on your remote to switch to the rest audio tracks and see if u can find their audio. This probably happend cause u fed the Author with the vob files and u haven't demuxed them to audio and video.

DvdAuthor allows you to specify first play. Before you proceed futher, go through all of the options and make sure you know what they are and how they work. The help file is outstanding also. The small amout of time invested doing this will pay off big for you when you do your next project. When you select a vob for input you are allowed the option to extract the files from the vob. It sometimes works out better to do this, although I can't explain why, It has been true at times for me.
