I did a search on "PAL to NTSC" and was blown away by the number of topics on this.

I read as many as I could before falling to the floor.

From what I gather there is no "1 click solution" Of coarse this makes me really sad. Is the problem so complex that nobody can come up with a program for it??

I have a couple of questions that probably have been answered but I didn't come across them while reading.

Here's the situation. I'm from the USA and want to buy a PAL DVD from Europe. My XBOX and PS2 are both hacked to be region free. From what I read my DVD players (XBOX & PS2)Will play them fine but my TV won't be able to decode the PAL signal. Is this right?

How about my PC. Assuming I make my PC region free will my monitor be able to display the movie??

I've read that there are a couple of different manual routes I can take to convert this. I was wondering on some opinions on which of them are the easiest and still produces good quality. I would want the end result in DVD format.

Computers don't mind which format and cheap standalone players do both too so its a bit like searching for rocking horse sh*t. (IMO)

Both of my players are region free and the PAL DVD I want to buy is also region free. I'm not worried that my players won't play it, I'm worried that my NTSC TV won't be able to handle the PAL signal.

So are you saying the my USA PC monitor will display the PAL images?

GtMustangJim: Your PC will play the DVD(s) fine - as maa said, PCs don't 'care' what format a DVD is; it will play whatever you throw at it :) However, your TV may not be able to handle the PAL stream if you're using a stand-alone to watch the DVD(s) (a picture certainly would appear, but it won't be 'normal' - usually black and white). But, you can always check if your TV is both NTSC/PAL compatible - most are these days.

PCs will play the DVD if its PAL or NTSC, as the monitor technically is neither. As long as the DVD-ROM drive's region settings match the DVD, you're fine.

As for a standalone player, many inexpensive DVD players convert from PAL to NTSC. So regardless of what your TV is capable of, the DVD player will output the correct signal. To find out if your DVD player has the ability to convert from PAL to NTSC, just go here:

Good luck.

Thanks, I checked it out. I was very surprised that 79% of the players listed supported multisystem PAL 2 NTSC & NTSC 2 PAL.

My xbox was listed as supported and MY PS2 was listed as not.
