View Full Version : Lost audio playback

I appear to have lost the ability to play audio on avi's. It was working yesterday, but now neither mplayer nor windows media player (nor powerdvd) will play audio. Window MP tries to download codecs from the net, but can't find. mplayer has a similar message about audio codecs or filters.

gspot says I have two compatible audio codecs, but its render function says unsupported streams.

Any idea how to fix?

thanks

EDIT: I tried installing (or reinstalling) a bunch of possibly useful codecs, which didn't help. Then I rebooted, and all is well. Very strange. Does this make any sense?

OT EDIT: gspot tells me I have two misconfigured divx decoder filters installed. both are missing divxdec.ax. I also have ffdshow and xvid. From searching, many people believe this is a stupid newbie problem, and I probably don't need divx, given the other filters. If so, I can't figure out how to get rid if the unneeded divx (no obvious uninstall on my machine). What am I missing.
