hey all,

i ran into a minor problem when shrinking the friends s1v1 disk.

i ripped with dvd decrypter 3.1.9.0 in "file mode", and had all default options selected, including RCE protection region set to "1". the disk is a usa/canada disk. (im pretty sure, i recieved disk from reputable local franchise US vendor:D:D)

It ripped fine (and fast, its only ~5.2gb:D), but when i tried to shrink it with DVD shrink it gave me an error message similar to this:

"If you select the region correctly dvd shrink can make it region free. If you leave it in the current region, the disk will not play in a "region free" player."

then it gave me 2 options
-a drop down list of all the regions
-leave current RCE region

i checked the dropdown list and and it had "usa/canada" there, so i left it, and when i clicked "ok" it gave me an error saying it cannot proceed.

so i went back and selected "leave current RCE region" and it started to anaylise and shrink like normal.

Has anyone else incountered this error?
Will my disk be region free?

i always thought all three of the programs i used could make disks region free (DVD Dycrypter, DVD shrink, Imgtool), so i never really had to worry about regions until now.

Thanks ahead of time all.

PS, im in the process of shrinking my disk, so i cant reproduce the error messages till its done, ill post the exact error messages later if they will help.

-EDIT Doh! 2 newb mistakes, os is XP pro, and i was in "backup" mode, not "reauthor" mode

-EDIT
here is actual error messages:

to be honest...you should use DVD Decryptor. I have had issues with Shrink like this before so I never use it to rip

If your uncertain afterwards, you can always use IFOEdit to remove the RCE protection after shrinking...just to be on the safe side.

The error is fixed in 3.1.5 beta 5, by the simple expedient of ignoring those navigation commands which DVD Shrink can't handle. They probably have nothing to do with R.C.E. anyway ;-)
