I was wondering if it is possible to have two runs of DVD2SVCD simultaneously, allowing me to convert two different AVI files to SVCD format.
If not, is there a way to have it start a second avi after finishing the first?

I've tried it and it generally works, but it is not supported and you save no time whatsoever, so there is no actual reason to do that. Besides, some encoders like CCE don't like multiple instances.

You can try to fake batch mode. Take a look at the FAQ & Guides and come back if you need any assistance.

I would advise against this. The processes are both I/O and CPU intensive as well as take a fair amount of disc space. It might work but I could easily see the machine just start thrashing and bogged down.

I also don't advise this since it has no advantage. But interestingly enough, on a test I made the two processes ended correctly and in the same time they took run in a chain.
The system did not crash or feel heavily loaded, but I refrained from starting a Quake session. ;)

I was thinking that if you were short on real memory, then the system would start paging and paging and paging... and never get any real work accomplished:)

Sure. But I've noticed CCE takes less than a couple hundred maximum. TMPGEnc too. I have 512-MB RAM so no problem. But anyway, I don't do it. I prefer playing Half-Life instead. :)
