Which software you may use depends on the format of your AVI file. If you captured a DV type-1 file, then you have to use a software that can deal with type-1, e.g. Ulead MediaStudio Pro or many others, or you have to convert to the VfW compatible type-2 (free converters available).

If it is a classic VfW compatible format, you can use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. There is no practical file size limit if you didn't use the old-fashioned AVI 1.0 format - which I don't assume. In that case you'd be limited to 2GB.
