Hi,

I am using DVD2SVCD in combination with D2SRoBa, FitCD, CCE and Scenarist. Works awesome!

Lately a came across a subtitle color problem I could overcome by changing some things in the palette. I just used logic. THis time however I can't find a decent solution. Let me explain.

I am doing "The Sixth Sense" DVD. Everything goes very smoothly, but when the conversion is done and I check the result, the subtitles are gray with a black outline. The original DVD has normal subtitles. That means white with a black outline.

I know you can change the color palette and all, but I don't exactly know how it works. There is an input tab and an output tab. Those terms speak for themselves, but both can be changed. I tried a few combinations but I never got it the way it's supposed to be. Last time I got black subs with a gray outline (?).

The input says:
color 1 (backround) black
color 2 (font) not used --> can't change it!
color 3 (outline) white
color 4 (antialiasing) blue

The output tab says:
color 0 (backround) black
color 1 (font) white
color 2 (outline) black
color 3 (antialiasing) gray

Should I adapt the output settings to the input settings?

I have to admit that I don't know what the result will be when I make changes to the above options. I suppose not every DVD contains subtitles in the same kinda format.

Anyway, I don't have a clue what to change to get my subtitles straight.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Can anyone explain to me what options I should change and what options I should leave alone no matter what?
Can anyone explain to me in general how the input and output tab of the palette works?

I have the feeling I am completely overlooking something really simple....

Well I tried several combinations now changing both input and output settings, but still the results stays the same: black characters with grey outline. Looks aweful.

When the subs are ripped in the bmp files de characters themselves are blue with a grey outline. This all really puzzles me.

Can anyone clearify things for me?

Solved it by importing the subtitles from the original DVD manually. I think DVDshrink gave my subtitles some weird colors.

Hi Moondust,

Sorry for not replying earlier - I missed the post. An alternative to your fix, would be to use ifoedit to copy the subtitle colours from the original PGC and then paste them into the PGC of your completed film. Sounds difficult? Not really, it can be done in a minute. If your struggling to do it, then search for a post with the parameters 'green subtitles ifoedit'. That should hopefully bring the procedure up.

I quite like this technique, since you can actually the copy the colours from any other film - if you have a specific preference.

Regards,
Bob
