View Full Version : Standalone player motion problems

Yeah this is another temporal motion issue with SVCD and standalone players.

Until recently I didn't have a DVD player that could play SVCD's. I'd made a ton of them and just watched them on my PC, knowing that one day, I would have a compatible player. (I now have a Sony DVP-NS930VS)

About 90% of all the titles that I've encoded are PAL and about 85% of those are progressive 25 frames/sec, as you may expect.

Pretty much everything I've done, progressive or interlaced looks lovely when enjoyed on my PC using WinDVD or something. I now realise that there's been a temporal motion problem (a very breif pause every second or so) with around 50% of the SVCD's that I've created! It's only ever manifested when you play them in a standalone player.

I've been through all the things I can think of, TFF/BFF flags, interlaced content as progressive.. here's the D2S projectfile:

It's only ever manifested when you play them in a standalone player.
It's usual problem. Normally not related with the SW or with the authoring.
Many SVCD standalone have very poor readers and they need "very good" medias. One method is to burn at low speeds (4x, max 8x) with qualified brands. But, in my experience, other way is to buy the cheapest standalode.
You can try copying a SVCD and burning it in a good media at 4x. If the copy works fine, you know the answer.

Thanks for your reply.

I understand your point, and I've seen how the cheapest far eastern manuf. equipment is usualy far more tolerant with standards such as SVCD (which is just barely a standard of course!)

I really do think this is a problem with the encoding, or the muxing process (incorrect flags etc.) as about 50% of my titles work perfectly and they were created and burnt to CD in the same way, using the same hw and sw.
