I've always wondered how Mark Wahlberg ends up in a planet in the end of the movie...where the apes ride the bike and cars. What does the Ape-Lincoln memorial mean...?? Im sorry I must have slept during the movie...but could some one explain

temporal twist ; the planet of the apes is in fact the future of planet earth. You can read the novel by Pierre Boule (he wrote the Kway river's bridge, too). Good novels.

It doesn't mean anything. Listen to Burton's commentary track on the DVD. He says that the story presented in the movie does not logically lead to the ending, its not supposed to. The ending is just an excuse for a possible sequel, which the studio wanted. In the next POTA movie we will find out how Earth got to be overrun with apes.

If you look at the official website for the movie their main link is to another website which has this elaborate timeline explaining the prevailing theory behind what happens and it involves the main bad ape (I forget his name) pulling Walberg's ship out of the water and then using some training program on the big ship (again forgot the name) to learn to fly it. Not such a huge stretch considering that the non-evolved chips were able to do the same thing. Anyway, he goes back in time to Earth and essentially takes it over. That's his statue instead of the lincoln memorial.

In the movie which released in 70's... if u have seen its sequel... An ape couple land on earth. They are then taken to NASA and are secretly assigned for fatal experiments from which they escape and the female ape gives birth to a baby ape. This ape gets rescued by someone and is placed in the zoo. Instead an actual ape from the zoo gets killed by the scientists. Somewhere in the middle of the movie..a scientist gives a very rational explanation of the evolution of apes. He explains that its actually an infinite loop or to visualize..it would be like a painter painting his picture...who is painting his picture who is again paintng his picture....get it. That ape which gets rescued by the zoo grows up to be the evolved ape which starts a reign that overrules the mankind. Well that explanation made the movie so valid. But the latest movie with Wahlberg was kinda irrational with a possibility for Tim Burton (Director) to make some more moolah.
