ok, this is my first time post and I believe I have read all of the forums about this issue.
My question, how do you prevent adware with the latest DivX Pro 5.1.1? I've read some posts saying to use firewalls, Ad-Aware, etc. And some people say it works other people say it doesn't encode anymore.
Any definitive answer(s) to prevent adware?
Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Hi esper
All you have to do is to follow the instructions in this thread to the letter:

If you are not exactly sure of what to do I recommend that you use AdAware as described in the thread. Also it is important that you have installed a firewall or are not connected to the internet while installing Divx pro as the Gain software immediately starts downloading adware when it is installed. Actually I think the adware part of the codec has been changed since 5.1.1 as it seems that all that is included in the installer now is a small program called something like fsg_4104.exe iirc. This program starts downloading and installing the gain software as soon as soon as you have installed divx.
Therefore it is important to have a firewall running while installing the codec thereby preventing the program from downloading the gain software to your computer.
Or you could consider actually buying an adware free version of the codec. IMHO 20$ isn't really that much to pay for a piece of software that you use on a regular basis. :)
EDIT:
I just thought of a couple of threads discussing GAIN in divx pro 5.1.1:
