The major professional products (I mean $100K+ systems, not as much Premiere) interchange and organize cut lists in proprietary data formats.

little off topic here, but i'd LOVE to see an SDI avisynth box that works in realtime :):)
that'd be awesome beyond words, but i doubt it's practical.

I'd like to see this becoming the new Graphedit:

And this the beginning of cross-platform Avisynth-like framework:

I just came across this information, and was about to post a new topic about it, but I think it could fit in here, so here goes.
I just installed Vegas 4.0 and was reading through the help files and I noticed something about this "EDL" format. I remember Premiere also supports this format. So I read about it and this is what it says:
"An Edit Decision List (EDL) is a text summary of a project. An EDL lists of all of the media files used, where they are placed on the timeline, and how they are trimmed.
Vegas EDLs are not the same as those used in traditional linear editing suites. The simple text lists Vegas creates can be used as a summary of your project, to open a Vegas project in a compatible application, or to open a project from another application into Vegas.
Because of the significant differences between editing applications, projects that are converted from EDLs in Vegas (or exported from Vegas) are necessarily simplified. Events are inserted into the timeline on a single track, and transition effects from the other application are replaced with crossfades."
I think it could be very interesting if someone wrote a program that could convert these EDL files into avisynth scripts. One obvious advantage would be the ability to edit video without doing colorspace conversions.

There is videoscript(.com). With a funny language
and the interpreter is as slow as the forum.
Features are live input and a MAC version.

@FredThompson
Yeah, I know :)
But I'd like to see a non-VFW based video scripting language.
Cross-platform and variable framerate are two buzzwords I like ;)
Maybe "ChrisHJW and Co." should start working on something else than containers

A port of Cinelarra would be nice...

Does anyone have some stadard compliant edit-lists (EDL's) - it could be possible to get it integrated into an AviSynth filter.
Edit: Just got an EDL out of Vegas. It looks doable, but it will require a good amount of work. It could however be used for filter graph creation. But it will require some work.
