I'm curious about the audience here. How many of us do this for fun and have a day job; how many really can make a living doing transcoding, dvd authoring, video editing, etc?
Is there a site where professionals in this stuff hang out? I'm interested since I would like to explore the job possiblities.

The family business happens to be video production/editing/duplication, but that's mostly by chance -- my dad got into it after I had already been a VDub capturer for some time. Besides, I spend most of my time a few thousand miles away at university. I doubt Avisynth is used much when I'm not around.
I know sh0dan works in pro video, and neuron2 used to (or still does?).

my friend works in DVD authoring, but only uses avisynth for playing around... i'm a bum student ATM, but i've used avisynth for some video projects in my circle.

I use AviSynth quite often, as many of our products are delivered as MPEG1, DVD, Shockwave video and in rare cases MPEG4 (XviD). Most our material is from a DV source.
It has saved me loads of time for doing trivial tasks, so my employer doesn't mind I spend some time developing it during workhours.
So my focus is mainly to include features that I can use myself - but of course also to support frequenly requested features.
OTOH I don't use AviSynth as the only tool. My main tools also include AViD Express DV, After Effects and Vegas Video.

sh0dan,
What type of work do you do? Is it multimedia and grahics based? How much is video? Is there much editing involved vs authoring? What type of skills does one need to get started? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to give you an idea of the info I'd like to hear.
thx
