Just noticed some nice new vfw GUI changes in the latest CVS.
It looks better alright, but will the bitrate calculator ever be implented? The placeholder thing for it has been removed.

I am glad you like it :)
General rule for current development is that we don't want to add anything. We want to release 1.0 and *then*, oh you just wait, you'll see ::devil:
Do you have any useful idea for a calculator? I mean you already have bitrate<->size calculations on the fly, what else do you need?
I don't think we should implemet GKnot or ARcalc in the gui... you already have them, too.

I use Nic's calc an awful lot, but it's hard being accurate in seconds with Nic's calc (which is important when doing small files like I mostly do).
It would be nice to see nic's calc there but also with the ability to put in seconds as seconds not as fractions of minutes :)

Remember, once upon on a time I was going to release the ageing DVD2AVI_Nic...Which I never did (because I couldn't be a*sed to support its bugs... ;) )
Well I updated the calc for it...
(it's still v.basic and crap, but you might like it if your used to using it)

ps
Im not sure the vfw is a place for a calculator, but if anyone should decide to add it, it is all in Win32 API rather than MFC style so it could be added very easily...ill post the source if it's asked for (but the code is horrid...I wrote it in about 5mins.lol)

Looks just basic enough as you'd expect to find in a codec config window. I vote for it to be implemented, cause it saves me the time of firing up calc.exe (no I don't calc overhead, I'm a bad boy :D, just doing totalmb*1024-audiosize*8).
Also, if you're so good with win32api, could you please volunteer to help me get double tabs configuration in xvid? :D Suxendrol was going to do that, but you know... MIA and stuff...

Which kind of GUI changes? Neither Koepi nor sysKin released any fresh build during the last week.
Do you probably refer to a GamrDev build? These are the ones I never tried because
- they appear a bit too often (who knows if they are well tested or may not work?)
- which build shall I use for my Duron, why don't they have auto-optimization?
__
P.S.: I just found a beautiful 3-colored graph at sysKin's home, let me guess: I=red/P=blue/green=Sum? Good idea; just add a little hint (e.g. small "shapes"/dots of the same color) near the text fields that we don't have to guess.

Green are b-frames btw (it didn't look this way because it was CBR encoding). New graph is 1000x better - credit goes to Koepi.
As for newer GUI - well you can try Gamer's builds just to see it, or you can wait for RC1 :)

Just saw the new bitrate calculator.
Very nice indeed.
I don't know if there are complications in including OGM and MKV under Container Format. It certainly would be a big help. I remember that there were some complications on how to calculate the overhead when len0x and theglouch were working on the (now abandoned?) GKnot 0.29 alphas.
But OGM and MKV overhead calculations work OK for me in the new GKnot, can it be implemented in XviD?
