I have just bought a new JVC camera and i tried to connect it my computer, but the computer did not recognize it (it did not notice that a new device is connected)
I tried to connect it to my new Compaq laptop but didn't work.
Is it supposed to be plug and play or do i have to install a driver to recognize it, or do i need a software to this. Please note that i tried the Windows Video Recorder but did not recognize it. it did find the USB connection but not the DV???
PLEASE HELP:devil:

What's the Windows's OS you are using? How are you connecting your camera with your PC i.e Which Firewire /IEE1394 card are you using?

I am using Windows XP. i am not sure what brand is the fire wire, but i tried it on my Compaq laptops and my friend's laptop. and i tried it on my descktop which has a built in port with its Gigabyte mother board.

Did you try it with the camcorder off when you plugged the cable into the computer?

im using a jvc gr-dvl220u with firewire on my winxp system
the second i turn it on i hear the device connected sound, and the autorun dialog box opens to whether or not i want to use windows movie maker (haha)
i never installed any drivers, and the camera works perfectly.
it could maybe be a bad cable or firewire port?

There is an included Microsoft driver for DV cameras and camcorders. You should be fine with that. I guess it could be a cable/connector problem. If it were me, however, I'd find out how to get rid of that automatic association with MovieMaker. I'm running 2K, not XP, so can't help with that.
