Hi!

Downloaded GKnot 0.28.7.2!

Ripped the subs with the included r4r! I have also installed SubRip 1.17.1 and the OGG DS filter (FYI).

I use the latest XviD binary (XviD-1.0-Beta3-26122003)

I tried to burn in the subs into the video with GK, but it didn't work... i don't see any subs...
They also did not work properly when i leave the subs in the same directory, of course with the same name as the video. i only see the half of the subs of the first row.

what can it be? VobSub 2.23 ist installed with the appropriate Vdub filters.

maybe it is not a gknot or vobsub problem.

see this thread:

Hi snowbeach-

Have you updated your outstanding guide for XviD 1.0 yet? I just looked-next month.

About your problem. My guess is that the forced subs were meant to be displayed in the black. But you cropped the picture, so no more black. So try this and let me know if it works. Go GKnot->Subtitles Tab->Configure VobSub and open your subs (the .idx is fine). Then, over on the right, under that red rectangle, change the "Y" coordinate to something like -50. Then "OK" your way out of there, and open the .avs in VDubMod, or play the Preview, go to where there's some Elvish being spoken and see if they're any higher. If they are higher, but still not perfect, either go back into VobSub Configure and adjust, or open the .idx file and change it in this line:

# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: 0, -50

I'm not positive that'll work, but it's worth a try. I don't have any movies on the hard drive with Forced Subs, so I can't check. But if it doesn't work, there may be some other setting in the .idx you can adjust.

Edit: I had a closer look at the .idx. It may be this line:

# Force subtitle placement relative to (org.x, org.y)
align: OFF at LEFT TOP

You can try and change that to ON if the earlier suggestion doesn't work.

No! Did not have the time. I decided to wait for a "stable" version. The GUI changed and maybe it will change one more time with a stable version. So that is why I am going to wait a bit.
BTW. XviD 1.0 is really great, next to quality, it is much more faster now. :D

Yes, I know what you mean, I did this too. But this seems to be only helpful for external subs. :(
But I have no idea what I can do to align the subs correctly, if I want to burn them in?
(As you can see on the pic in the thread I mentioned above.)

I did not see the most important thing of the .idx file:

# Original frame size
size: 720x480

But I am dealing with a PAL DVD, so I changed it to:

# Original frame size
size: 720x576

And: Surprise, surprise, it works... ;)

But I am clueless why VobSub 2.23 did not insert the correct frame size?

Hi again-

Good, I'm glad you figured it out, and thanks for reporting back. It turns out that my suggestions were completely useless, but at least I'll be able to help the next guy that has the problem. And anyone that has the problem and searches a bit should come across the solution.

No, it was not completely useless. Because if you haven't mentioned that I can edit the idx file manually, I wouldn't take a closer look to it. :)

I forgot sth. You have to change the following line from

# Language index in use
langidx: 0

to

# Language index in use
langidx: 1

And you should get a nice burnt in sub.
