I've been converting divx to dvd and the question I have is what sort of a ratio between mpeg4 / mpeg2 should I use? Say my source is a 1350kbps Divx4 type, would an average of 2000kbps in CCE be enough to preserve the picture when encoding to mpeg2?

2000 ain't especially good for DVD, but divx=noisy source so the encoder will have even more trouble.

At that bitrate you may want to consider half-res, i.e. 352 x 576/480.

well, I decided to go ahead and use a higher bitrate (~4K).

anyhow while feeding the .avi to cce i had to resize it from it's original 576x352 resolution 1:1.64 aspect ratio.. since 1:1.64 is kind of in the middle between 1:1.85 and 1:1.33 but closer to 1.85 i was thinking of resizing it to a recommended 720x352 for 1:1.85 (doom9's guide for avi>dvd-r) but resized it to 720x382 instead as the picture wasn't as squeezed and looked better. was i right to do this or no?

thanks!
