So I got Sagetv and it is great piece of software and I have been trying to use Gknot to compress the MPEG2 files(the are set at 5gb a a hour) into Xvid files. For my archiving of files I generally use a 10min=100mb. I tried setting up gknot last night and did two pass settings and recompressing the audio down into 160 from 384.

When I got to the files this morning I noticed that the audio didn't compress(I made sure that it was set to recompress and added it as a job) and the file turned out to be out about 2gb.

There is something that I am probably missing but this is the first time I have messed around with this program and search didn't turn up to have much information on this subject.

I'm sure there are better ways todo this but if your Video is fine then just take the audio from your mpeg files and convert them externally with LAME and mux the video and audio with VdubMod.
Also check the guides on this site http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm

IIRC GKnot won't do MPEG-2 audio automatically. You have to demux the audio, convert it to mp3 (with besweet), and remux it again afterwards.
