I want to capture straight from a DV source (ADVC-100, WDM) to Divx, as fast as possible. I need speed and stability above all. Well, all that is except cost. PLEASE free or low cost options (trials!).
On a related note...
Has anyone managed to get the WDM wrapper working? I'm running W2K, and it pulls the "Cannot find capture device" routine.

Give "iuVCR" a try. It will take DV input (IEEE1394) and encode to anything you like (if you have the appropriate codec) on the way to the HD.
You could probably get half size video real-time, but if you want a quality capture using DixX, you better have a pretty fast computer!

A AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (I think, might be 2400+). Is this good enough?

Plus, have they resolved the stability issues? I tried it before, and we couldn't get the thing to stay running long enough to capture a show.

Stability.... I don't know. I was only using it for a short clip, to see if it did what I wanted. (It didn't - I could not get to to transfer the DV input straight to HD, it always wanted to re-code, and I couldn't find a way to turn it off. I now use WinDV.)
And as for speed, I have a AMD1500+ (overclocked to 1200MHz) and it won't do realtime. I can suggest you try VDub, and if you can achieve realtime there (ie: fps is high enough) then iuVCR should work, as it appears to be faster then VDub.
BTW, it is free trial for 30days, so you can always give it a blast before you decide!
PS: Post your results if you do the test!

I havn't tried it, but when I get a chance I'll run it through. I think it will.
