Hello,

I've used the big 3 succesfully and now this new issue, not sure what I've changed to create this?!?

I have just converted a dvd using dif4u and the converted vob's work fine - only the ones that are not touched are having issues.

I had this happen before and I would simply rerip the bad vob to my hd, now the vob is remaining garbled no matter what.
Using DVD Decrypter in file mode - I try to put a vob on my HD and run it but it acts as though it's scratched (time increments in a stuttering manner, not smooth) and I get blocks and other erata. Most of the time it will not play at all.

I can play the vob directly from the original dvd so I know the file is intact.
If I burn the files and put it in a standalone player it acts the same.

Is there any other way to get the vob onto my HD?

LATER EDIT:
I've found a solution, though not an answer.
If I rip an ISO of the dvd and mount it, I can then extract the vob with no trouble.
So definately seems something in the way a dvd transfers to my hd is not right, and then the encoding process corrects it? This makes no sense to me!

Thanks for any help!

sounds like you are trying to rip from the DVD and not making an ISO of it like recommended... I could be all wrong tho.

I am so ashamed!

I am(was) doing this - and yes, I know the guide says to do otherwise. I was doing what the guide said until it worked consistantly and I decided to mess around ;)

So I guess someone knows why this happens, eh?
What is the problem? Some kind of latency with the dvd drive? I'm curious now!

Some disks don't seem to have an issue with ripping directly from the original. I must have done a few of those and forgotten I was skipping a step, doh!
Is there some way to tell which will have a problem and which won't?

And I still don't get: How could there be an issue with the file when it gets written to my hard disk - and then the garbled file gets encoded and the resulting file is just fine??? This is what seems to be happening to the main VOB's.

I think it is happening because the DVD is not being de-encrypted when the files are being copied. If you try to just copy files from an encrypted DVD the video will be garbled, as happens if you try the Big 3 from the original source DVD.

If you have reached the end of the process, simply use DVD-Decrypter to copy the affected files to HD. You should now have a correct backup.
